To THRIVE we should take some time to reflect
January is a time for new beginnings, and a pinch of optimism, as we look forward to the new year ahead. Here at Inform People we also like to take January as an opportunity to review the year that has just passed, take in the detail and use it to focus our goal setting for the year ahead.
During 2024, THRIVE saw some big changes. We attended the NHS Confederation event in June and made lasting contacts who are looking to go live with THRIVE in 2025, thus have now booked into two more Healthcare events over 2025 to continue our work alongside Endoscopy and Diagnostic Procedure monitoring in the NHS.
We added over 20 new rooms including unique monitoring of three brand new trusts and one brand new region.
Development time was spent on a 6 month project to help strengthen security requirements for THRIVE and a further 3 months developing the tools that will eventually help us to monitor more diagnostic procedure disciplines such as Cardiology, Respiratory, Sleep Studies and Urology. We are also very excited to announce that we have moved into live trials of these disciplines and will follow with more news as soon as we can share it.
THRIVE saw a massive 314,124 procedures recorded in 2024: over 58,766 lists across the North West of England. This is an increase of over 10,000 lists compared with 2023 and an additional 71,000 procedures recorded over the course of a single year.
From this we’ve provided 52 weekly reports to 4 Networks, a whopping 336 monthly reports for trusts and well over 500 custom reports of all varieties. All this alongside a live reporting tool that can be visited at any point.
What the Data Reveals
But that’s enough about us, we want to talk about some of the fantastic work being done by the trusts using THRIVE, because it has been a brilliant year for them.
One of the primary focuses for 2024 was reducing the number of patients waiting 6+ weeks for a diagnostic procedure. This data is all publicly available via the NHS Statistics website allowing us to compare the progress of THRIVE users with NHS England as a whole.
Looking at the number side-by-side, we can see that THRIVE users are making progress in some of their key areas at a much faster rate than many of their counterparts.
Comparing National data for October 2024 (the most recent available Waiting List Data at the time of writing) to THRIVE users, we can see that for Gastroscopies the average percentage of patients waiting 6+ weeks for a procedure with NHS England on the whole was 32.20%. The THRIVE user’s average is instead only 21.80%, an impressive difference. We can see there is still a long way to go before targets are achieved, however THRIVE users are now much closer to achieving them than the average.
This impressive work gets better when we compare this data with that of October 2022 and October 2023.
We can see that while overall waiting lists for a Gastroscopy in NHS England actually rose between October 2022 and October 2023, then stayed the same in October 2024, THRIVE users have had a constant downward trend, suggesting their dedication to improvement is providing real world results allowing for more patients to be seen in a timely manner.
An almost identical story can be seen when looking at Colonoscopies over the same time frame:
There are almost certainly a myriad of reasons and a huge amount of hard work that have gone into THRIVE users’ progressions but they all share one thing in common – dedication to improvement.
Some individual networks (that utilise THRIVE) have seen drops in these figures of over 30% between October 22 and October 24, with one network being able to boast they have reduced all of their Endoscopy based diagnostic procedure 6+ Week Wait Lists to below 10%.
With this in mind, we look forward to another fruitful year working alongside the NHS and hope to be writing an equally successful recap update this time next year.
