Harnessing the Power of Hybrid Learning

4 May 2023

Our core focus at Inform People is to provide the tools that keep our clients, their employees, and their customers safe. To achieve this, compliance is key – knowing who has done what and who still needs to complete tasks. So we provide many of those tasks through the Virtual PA which can also be configured to record completion of offline actions too. Using a hybrid approach allows your people to learn in the best way for them, get compliant and get back to work.

MSCP (Memos, Surveys, Courses and Policies), was built initially as a simple ‘learning’ module and can, using the same building blocks, handle other categories of information sharing and questions such as internal policies, user guides, and in combination with our other modules, development programmes.

Core features of MSCP and their benefits.

All information on one page

    • Intuitive
    • Straightforward
    • Suitable for any device, especially mobile

With policy updates and essential learning being only a small fraction of the information that needs to be taken in, processed and actioned, especially by any employee in a public facing role, the time spent on online learning needs to be minimal, focused, specific and accurate. It’ll be more engaging if it is relevant to their daily experiences too.

Optional quiz or follow on survey

    • All content gets a sign off anyway, sometimes a quiz isn’t required
    • When it is, include one with as many questions as required, with a variety of interaction types.
    • If feedback is more relevant than a quiz, then MSCP can be configured to collect responses instead.

    Multiple question types

      • Multiple Choice – for questions that can have either one or many correct answers. They require more comprehension and less guesswork than a True/False question whilst still providing a quick and straightforward knowledge check.
      • Word Insertion – using drop down selections, a different way of answering provides engagement opportunities but also challenges information retention.
      • Number and range answers – requires a single or two specific numerical answers and has to be accurate – especially important for health and safety information that is used daily.
      • Re-order list – move answers up and down the list until they are in the right order and confirm understanding of processes
      • Text collection – mostly for use in feedback surveys, this is a free text option.

      Lock out & Refresh schedules

When relevant, retakes can be unlimited but we also know how important it is, especially for compliance content, to make sure that people are actually taking in the information they are required to know – setting a limit on retakes will then result in anyone who fails repeatedly to need to be unlocked by their manager – which both highlights that they need help and should act as an impetus for the learner to focus on the information once they are unlocked for further attempts.

All courses can be given an expiration window, relevant to the time they previously completed the course, usually this would be annually but Inform People’s MSCP module can support nearly any time period for a refresh where both content and any quiz would need to be completed again.

Expand learning and include it in Pathways

When designing MSCP, we knew it would work in tandem with Pathways so that it  can be grouped to track progress in completion from central reporting, but also engage learners through bite-sized learning so that they can go at their own pace and fit learning in around their other responsibilities.

By building learning into a Pathway, it also opens up the opportunities to combine with other formal and informal learning opportunities. Hybrid learning is something many businesses are focusing on as there are some topic that need to be explored in-depth in a classroom environment (see Events), some that are ad-hoc learning from colleagues (see Collections) and others that just need a little bit of online information to refer back to. MSCP courses fit within this hybrid system, to support ongoing and vital learning and keep people engaged and compliant at every stage of their employee journey

Employees who feel that they are well-trained are more likely to be satisfied with their jobs, which can lead to happier people, happier customers and reduced turnover.

It’s not All or Nothing – you can grow over time

We also understand that ‘learning’ and ‘training’ is a huge undertaking, there’s no single best approach that fits everyone. Our understanding is that it’s better to get your principle information up and running as soon as possible, with the ability to expand and grow over time, rather than try to get it all perfect before launch only to never get anywhere at all!

Some of the compliance learning we have hosted for our clients since MSCP launched a year ago include:

        • Day 1 Training
        • Annual Health and Safety and Food Hygiene Refresher courses
        • Company Policies
        • Product training for shop floor employees
        • GDPR training
        • Fire safety
        • Development Programmes – e.g. Colleague to Team Leader

        Keep it up-to-date and relevant.

Think back to when you joined your organisation, were your company policies handed over in a booklet? If you wanted to look up one now, where would you look?

We think ongoing access to the most up-to-date company policy is a good idea because:

          • It is convenient. Employees can access company policy from anywhere, at any time, on any device.
          • It is up-to-date. Eliminate out of date paper copies and reduce confusion if policy has changed since it was first issued.
          • It is easy to find. If it’s all in one place on your online system it will be quick to locate and searchable too.
          • It is relevant. Online access to company policy ensures that all employees have access to the information they need, and that it is relevant in regard to their location, job role and responsibilities.

Overall, online access to company policy is a convenient, up-to-date, and easy-to-use way for employees to stay informed about the rules and regulations that govern their work.

          Reporting

Built in reporting for Managers, Senior Managers and Compliance Teams allows them to:

            • Track progress and identify potential non-compliance as soon as possible. When managers can see which tasks are complete, and incomplete, they can identify and correct gaps in their team’s input before it becomes a problem.
            • Make informed decisions. When managers have access to live reporting, they have the information they need to make informed decisions about their team and their potential. This could influence who is in line for promotions, extended training opportunities or reward incentives.
            • Improve communication and collaboration. Live reporting can help managers to be aware of what is happening with their team members and more senior managers to check in with teams at all locations. When everyone is on the same page and knows what is going on, it is easier to work together and achieve common goals.

Live reporting on tasks and actions is a valuable tool for managers. It can help them to track progress, identify potential problems, improve performance, make informed decisions, and improve communication and collaboration.
