Following the introduction of Tags to THRIVE we have also made a number of new additions to the THRIVE reporting suite to reflect the information that is now being collected.
Turnaround Spread
The first of these additions can be found under the ‘Turnaround (Breakdown)’ tab and provides the table of Turnaround times, broken down into useful intervals. This can be used to give an idea of the spread of the turnaround times being generated between procedures – between the ‘Stop’ of the previous procedure and the ‘Start’ of the next, this is calculated automatically.
The aim of this is to give a more accurate representation of what’s happening between procedures and see how often target turnaround times are achieved.
This graphic also provides a good way to see how often THRIVE lists are misrepresented by noting how many turnaround times occur that are less than one minute. This is likely occurring when ‘Stop’ button is only pressed when the next procedure is about to proceed as it is unlikely and unrealistic that a room could be ‘turned around’ effectively in under a minute. By viewing these occurrences, and adapting behaviours and processes over time, the totals should shift towards their target times as efficiency is improved and stop and start times are recorded accurately.
Insourcing Addition
Our second update comes under the ‘Patient Type’ tab and provides a breakdown of inpatient procedures completed and cancelled compared to outpatient procedures completed and cancelled. Whilst inpatient procedures are less common in endoscopy than outpatient procedures, it’s important to see the proportion of inpatient procedures performed. This aids in accurate future list planning by allowing list admins to better predict short-notice inpatient additions to lists and therefore increase the overall number of patients seen per day.
Late Start Reasons
Finally, the last notable addition is the new Late Start Reason, Inpatient Delay. We have heard from a number of trusts that their lists sometimes start late due patient delays beyond their control. This can be a result of a lack of porters to help transport a patient to the unit or a miscommunication and therefore incorrect preparation of a patient by another department of the hospital. Now that these delays are highlighted and recorded within THRIVE, we hope to provide a clearer picture of how often this occurs and gain insights into what can be done to combat it going forward.
Our reporting is accurate to the time the page is accessed allowing for real-time data to be viewed and utilised by specific reporting accounts in hospitals, trusts and even the wider regions. Snapshots of data are captured in weekly and monthly reports that are issued to key contacts within the Trusts we work with.
